Rimmel catering for men

Posted in Cosmetics by Rachel on the August 8th, 2007

rimmelnewsletter.jpgI’m ever so bold ya know. I don’t care about signing up for girly stuff on women’s websites.

But the thing is by sticking down a woman’s name and using my “Rachel” email address no one would be any the wiser. So really it ain’t that bold, is it? Of course not.

But Rimmel, and don’t ask me what their motivation is, have a gender dropdown list for the newsletter form - you got it, they’re asking if you’re male or female. Or should that be female or male.

Anyhows, I told the truth. Wonder if I’ll receive any further communication in the light of my oh so daring revelation. I’ll report back, if so.

I have to say it does intrigue me as to what the purpose of it all is. Do they see themselves stealing a competitive advantage by doing this? Think I feel an enquiring email coming on…

Couldn’t find a means of contacting Rimmel - not an address, telephone number or email addy - very strange.

Maybe they have ‘male’ because it’s more subtle than putting ‘TG’ Like you, I’d like to know why though. I mean realistically they must *know* that we use their products.

I guess you’re right Lynne. But by leaving the choice to male/female no-ones’ jumping to any conclusions. It’s probably for the best. Besides, no-one else should see the info.

I’m chuffed in a way though that Rimmel recognise males as part of their market.

Who knows, may be they’ll start doing promotions, product launches, etc. aimed at males. now there’s a thought… :)

Having said that, the Nottingham MAC store told me they’d tried a MAC evening for TGs, but the response wasn’t sufficient to warrant repeating the excercise. not their exact words but you get the drift.

A few years ago it was moisturiser for men, now it seems you can get moisturiser with ‘tan enhancer’ for men now.

I think the ‘metrosex’ thing was probably quite a good thing for us TG folk. Means we can get away with looking a bit more well groomed without looking too well groomed.

    > MAC

They are very helpful in MAC, but they didn’t have what I wanted (the fantastic foundation that folk rave about). Plus, the shop’s smack bang in the middle of town. Fine for some folk, but they’d be better off coming to a well known social group. The lady from the Body Shop is raking it in ;-)
