COGIATI Test Results

Posted in Transgender by Alex on the February 15th, 2009

Have to say I view these tests with an appropriate amount of scepticism and always try to answer the questions as accurately as possible. I also have my suspicions that for many the accuracy of their responses varies according to the desire to achieve a certain outcome.

Anyway, for the record, the results are as expected. Does this mean I also fell victim to inaccurate responses? All I can say is I’ve tried my best to be as honest as possible with myself .

Your COGIATI result value is: 20 Which means that you fall within the following category:
COGIATI classification THREE, ANDROGYNE

What this means is that the Combined Gender Identity And Transsexuality Inventory has classified your internal gender identity to be essentially androgynous, both male and female at the same time, or possibly neither. In some cultures in history, you would be considered to be a third sex, independent of the polarities of masculine or feminine. Your gender issues are intrinsic to your construction, and you will most likely find your happiness playing with expressing both genders as you feel like it.

SUGGESTIONS FOR ACTION:

Your situation is a little tricky in our current society, but not tremendously so, depending on your geographic location.

The suggestions for your circumstance are not overly complicated.

  1. If you have any comfortability about your gender expression, some slight degree of counseling might well prove helpful. The primary goal would be to make it possible for you to enjoy your gender expressions free from any shame or embarrassment, and to resolve any remaining questions you might have.
  2. As an androgynous being, both genders, and both sexes are natural to your expression. Permanent polarization in either direction might bring significant unhappiness. It is not recommended that you go through a complete transsexual transformation. You might find a partial transformation of value, if you find yourself more attracted overall to the feminine. You are more likely a transgenderist, than a transsexual. It is recommended that you recognize that your gender issues are real, but that extreme action regarding them should be viewed with great caution.
  3. If you have not already, consider joining any of the thousands of groups devoted to gender play of various varieties. There is literally a world of friends to discover who share your interests. There are also publications, vacations, and activities that would expand your gender play.

Thank you for using the Combined Gender Identity And Transsexuality Inventory.

I forget which quiz it’s on – it maybe one on Becky’s site – which contains the option: “What’s the most girlie answer I can give?” These tests always remind me of it. :-)

Just for the craic, I did it too and got a similar answer to you. I got 85 and I had the same result as you. There must be quite a range to the scoring. Only 65 questions though, so as you say, a certain amount of scepticism should be applied.

I think the answer is fairly accurate, but probably no more than my star chart :-)

Hmmm. I took this test a few years ago and I’ve just taken it again with the same result:

    COGIATI classification FOUR, PROBABLE TRANSSEXUAL
What this means is that the Combined Gender Identity And Transsexuality Inventory has classified your internal gender identity to be essentially feminine, but with some masculine or androgynous traits. It is very possible that you are a candidate for a diagnosis of transsexualism. You show a strong degree of gender dysphoria. At the very least, further investigation should be undertaken. Your COGIATI score places you among the majority of those diagnosed as transsexuals, the ‘late onset’ transsexual.

Kind of worrying at my age! I did try to be a s honest as possible and I know, if anything I’m more femme than I used to be. Oh well, I will take the test again in a few years time. Ha!
I wondered why everyone says to me ” Keep taking the pills”

    xx

My biggest problem with these tests is that if you answer the questions honestly the outcome will come as no surprise. But if you’re looking for an engineered result that’s only too easy as well.

To be taken with a sackful of salt, yeah?

If you could get a sackful of salt…. given the amount we’ve been chucking on the roads :-)

I was thinking about the results that came up earlier. A (TG) friend once said that she’d enjoyed the company of fellow CDs outside of the whole CD/T* club area…. I wonder if the masks we all put on drop away when someone knows both sides of our nature? Just a thought.

  5. on February 16th, 2009 at 11:24 pm

Absolutely. We all know ourselves better than anyone else. We just have to ask ourselves the right questions. And not lie. Unless we are in denial of course!

    xx

@Lynn Hopefully the masks do drop away, although I see no reason to use one when out at clubs, or were you just referring to the make-up like in a physical sense – I get confused easily.

@Gabby And being in denial is something a lot of tg folk go through, almost a rite of passage. Totally unnecessary, of course, but what with all the access to information on the Internet now it’s becoming more a thing of the past, hopefully.

Only talking to a 26yo on Friday whose absolutely cool with who she is, and it was she who brought up the fact that the Internet had helped her so much. Me and a 38yo looked at each other and agreed that if only it had happened 25 years ago…

    > masks.

Sorry for the confusion, I didn’t mean make-up. Perhaps ‘barriers’ would be a more suitable term?

I do know I screen my male behaviour in terms of gestures, language and topics of conversation. At home / with close friends, that’s not the case. Okay, so I don’t talk about the perils of nail varnish, to Jones Junior, but you get the picture :-)

I just took that test, answered honestly as best I could and this was the result

Your COGIATI result value is: 160 Which means that you fall within the following category:
    COGIATI classification FOUR, PROBABLE TRANSSEXUAL
What this means is that the Combined Gender Identity And Transsexuality Inventory has classified your internal gender identity to be essentially feminine, but with some masculine or androgynous traits. It is very possible that you are a candidate for a diagnosis of transsexualism. You show a strong degree of gender dysphoria. At the very least, further investigation should be undertaken. Your COGIATI score places you among the majority of those diagnosed as transsexuals, the ‘late onset’ tanssexual.
    SUGGESTIONS FOR ACTION:
Your situation is potentially serious and indicative of a probable inborn gender conflict. It is definitely recommended that you pursue further action.

    In short…. oooh errr. :o/

How do you view your results Sophie? Isthis good or bad news for you? Or does it have little effect on view of your situation?

  11. Sophie H said,

    on February 19th, 2009 at 10:19 pm

    Well, interesting……
I was fine untill I read the last bit about action, and being potentially serious.
Probably, overall, it has little or no effect on me, as I am me and always will be. Ive tried to change and always slip back sooner or later.
Im just a short of stature, possibly oversensitive, rabbit in the headlights type of t-girl who just wants to be friends with people.
    Hugs,
    Sophie.

Yup, Sophie, must admit the ‘action’ part of the advice didn’t really appeal. I’m more than happy doing just what I do now, socialising at places like BNO.

I just redid the test, scored 265 and got the same classification category as Sophie. Mind you I have started the ball rolling by telling my GP I want to transition and I’m currently reading as much information as I can find as to what will happen at each stage.

I know the test in a load of bunk and you can easily pick out the answers that will give you the outcome you’d most wish for, but isn’t that the point for some of us, that we want it confirm our choice about how we want to live.

Just a stupid thought, feel free to ignore me on this. xx Jo

  14. Alex said,

No, I think both points are valid, Joanne. I took the test knowing I feel comfortable in expressing both feminine and masculine traits and, what a surprise, they have me down as androgynous – well knock me down with a feather! :)

I took the test a couple of months ago – Right after I decided that – Yup. I was TG and had been my whole life. Took the test and it decided I was a Post Op Transexual. Im still fighting the idea of even transitioning and remain in the closet. Go figure.

Having just read this post, I took and test, trying to answer as honestly as I could and I got:

Your COGIATI result value is: 350 Which means that you fall within the following category:
    COGIATI classification FOUR, PROBABLE TRANSSEXUAL
What this means is that the Combined Gender Identity And Transsexuality Inventory has classified your internal gender identity to be essentially feminine, but with some masculine or androgynous traits. It is very possible that you are a candidate for a diagnosis of transsexualism. You show a strong degree of gender dysphoria. At the very least, further investigation should be undertaken. Your COGIATI score places you among the majority of those diagnosed as transsexuals, the ‘late onset’ tanssexual.

As it is, I went to my GP 3 weeks ago to seek a referral to the Gender Clinic. I am just waiting for a letter so that I can have my first appointment.

  17. Alex said,

    on April 21st, 2009 at 11:42 am

@Victoria The COGIATI test does produce ‘canned’ results so shouldn’t be taken as conclusive, but as a general indicator of traits it’s probably reasonably reliable.

Having a supportive GP and GIC, I’m sure, will be of much greater help to you.

Good luck with the next part of your journey. :)
