Came across an article with some useful tips on organising your make-up so I thought I'd pass them on...
This really relates to the problem of hanging onto old make-up.
Start by throwing out cracked, broken or unwanted items.
Next, consider the shelf life and throw out stuff that goes beyond the following "sell by" dates:
- Concealer - 12 months
- Powder - 2 years
- Cream and gel cleansers - 1 year
- Eyeliner - 3 years
- Foundation - water-based 1 year, oil-based 18 months
- Lip liner - 3 years
- Lipstick - 4 years
- Mascara - 4 months
- Nail polish - 1 Year
- Make-up brushes - wash weekly or throw out monthly to avoid bacteria build-up
Now I wonder if you can find many items in your make-up that exceed these "sell by" dates.
May be a competition's in order? I know I've had my foundation for what seems like years. My guess is others get through tubes and bottles quite regularly, the lucky ones anyway!
